Al Ghiroso (who I just found passed away on the 26th of DECEMBER 2010 just as I was copying a tour of the Berkeley Lab he gave me in 1999 so look for that), AL along with Darleane Hoffmann and Glenn T. Seaborg Were the 'TransUranium people" as their book was titled. Glenn was a great scientist whose humbleness made him even greater! Discovered plutonium in Gilman Hall that was built for his research advisor the great Gilbert Newton Lewis! Only element to ever be named after a living person #106 is Seaborgium in 1997. Chancellor at Cal Berkeley so his name is off some other element discoveries but was in on at least 10 (He loved that SEABORG can be rearranged to read GO BEARS (Cal Golden Bears). Headed the Atomic Energy Commission for TEN presidents! His greatest discovery was Helen Griggs Ernest Orlando Lawrence's secretary! His many isotope discoveries were used in medicinal radiochemistry and radiation treatments today (Iodine131 saved his own mother's life (thyroid cancer). He signed my Periodic Table Car and we became friends for about a year till he passed away in 1999.
