Even though BP is taking responsibility for the Gulf Oil spill containment and cleanup, some attorneys handling claims are also leveling accusations at BP’s two key oil rig business partners – Transocean, who leased the oil rig to BP and Halliburton, who provided the cementing which may have subsequently failed.
The cementing process is supposed to seal the well to control the oil and gas pressure beneath the well head. If the pressure builds too much, it can cause an explosion much like what happened on the Deep Horizon. When asked to comment, a Halliburton spokeswoman indicated that the company would continue to investigate.
Both Transocean and Halliburton are avoiding making any formal statements until each company has a better idea of what occurred.
